Having operated and/or managed websites for almost ten years now, we are quite familiar with web hosting services, solutions, and specifications. Over the years we have hosted our websites and blogs with a few web hosting services: all the big names in the industry such as GoDaddy, Bluehost, 1&1, etc. When Squarespace released their platform providing hosting as one of its features, we knew that it was worth reviewing.

Squarespace hosting is easy to setup

Due to the fact Squarespace is a full-packaged platform, one does not need to set anything up. There is no software to install, program to download… nothing. Your hosting is included in the platform’s monthly cost. Trust us when we say this saves great amounts of time. You do not have to register for hosting and then get your domain to point at the server. More so, it is a time saver for those of you that use different services for both your domain registrar and web hosting solution.

Cloud hosting

Squarespace hosting is a genuine cloud hosting solution. Therefore, unlike most hosting services where your domain is on one or a few servers within their server farm, with Squarespace your site is supported by every Squarespace server. The site says if your site is down, then their’s is, as they use the same services as their customers. We have yet to see a Squarespace site go down, let alone Squarespace.com.

Other hosting notables

Squarespace’s hosting solution has spam filters and blockers that are constantly fighting real-time spam. This is provided with your subscription to Squarespace and not a plugin as is the case in the open source environment. For SEO gurus (we like to think we are), the company says their hosting solution has ensured it will get your site crawled by search engines. We reviewed this proclamation with the example blogs and sites on their site and we did not find one instance of a site of theirs that was not indexed in the three major search engines: Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Our Squarespace review of their hosting solution to date is positive, but we will change this statement should we see faults.
